Text, early evening on the 24th

Hey Shadow. Are you gonna be coming back to the apartment tonight?

[ Since Shadow had "moved in", Amy had started referring to the place as "the apartment" instead of just "her apartment", in some odd hope that Shadow would maybe feel a little more comfortable staying there. ]

[Honestly Shadow has maybe noticed that, calling Amy's room the apartment instead of hers, but he's not going to say anything about that. How Amy speaks is up to her after all and is none of his business.

And her text happens to catch him in between what he does for work. Which is mostly just random odd jobs here and there, so he sees it and considers how to respond.]

I don't have anything planned after what I am doing, so yes?

Okay great. See you tonight.

[ That's all she says, with no indication of why she's asking or what she has planned. But he would get an idea when he came to the apartment that night, and a wreath was hung on the door, and the flowers that decorated the wreath seemed to be glowing with a faint light. ]

[Kind of weird, but whatever. Shadow will notice the decor once he finally returns to the room that night, again paying it no mind because hey it's Amy's place she can do what she wants. He gives a slight knock on the door before he enters, just to give Amy a warning so he doesn't walk in on something he shouldn't.]

I'm back.

[Not "I'm home" or anything of that sort, as he enters the room.]

[ When Shadow enters, he'll notice that Amy has decorated the apartment quite a bit. There wasn't room for a proper tree in the cramped space, but she was able to find one that would fit on a table top, which she has set up on a table in the center of the room. She was also making use of the Candlebloom spell that she'd learned when the power had gone out in Camelot, with room lit up with several of the flower candles instead of the electric lights.

At the moment she's standing on a small stepladder and hanging stockings and snowflake decals on the wall, but pauses when the door opens and waves at him with a smile. ]

Hey! Welcome back.

[Shadow would say that the decor is certainly festive, and maybe a bit much especially going with candles instead of normal lighting. But he keeps such comments to himself, since he is merely a guest in Amy's place so he feels he has no say over such things as decor.

As he's waved at as he comes into the room, closing the door behind himself, he can't help but give a little wave back of his own.]

Did you need me for something then?

[Because that's the only reason why Shadow can even imagine Amy wanting him to be in the room at this time.]

[ As he steps further inside, she turns her attention back to the stocking that she's working on, glad that he could no longer see her face as she works out the words to say.. ]

Uh...well, sort of? I mean, tonight is Christmas Eve, and I just...thought it'd be nice to spend it together.

Is this straight?

Oh.

[The date had kind of just, not really come to mind for him. He's not exactly the holiday kind of hedgehog, after all, and sure he knows about Christmas but him actually actively celebrating it? A rare thing indeed.

At her question he tilts his head to one side and squints.]

It looks fine to me.

[ With a nod, she secures the stocking to the wall before hopping off the stepladder, finally turning to face him. ]

Yeah...I mean, you don't have to celebrate if you don't want to...

[ She doesn't know if Christmas was something he ever celebrated, but while she wouldn't force him to spend the holiday with her, she does hope that he'd at least stay for the night. Even with all the friends she'd made here, being the only two from home felt a little lonely, especially with the holidays.

And maybe it wasn't great, wanting to celebrate Christmas with him because she was feeling a little homesick. But for the moment, she also wasn't sure if she wanted to spend Christmas with anyone else. ]

[It takes a while before Shadow responds, he was busy either with work or training.]

Yes, this is Shadow.

And you're the kid who wanted to spar, right?

Yeah.

[He wants to, yes, but...!]

There's actually something I wanted to ask before.
But it's been bothering me a while now...

I only knew one thing when I landed here, and didn't need to know anything more than that. I haven't had to do more than fighting. But I've been thinking, you agreed to spar so easily, I figured you're used to it much as I am.

But, people don't just fight, [he's told.] So I was thinking something more than that.

[Because it's "sad" he's been hearing.]

Don't get me wrong here; I'll take you on any time you want.
I just think we shouldn't end with that. If we do end up sparring.

[This is Chompy's influence...]

I thought we should go eat coffee soon.

[And cake. Lots of cake.]

I know it's sudden, but I've got a good reason.
I'm just asking if you'd come along.

[That's a lot of words to just ask him out for a coffee date, which gets Shadow wondering if someone may have put Shoto up to this.]

I assume you wouldn't be eating the coffee.

[Because that stood out to him as well.]

But yes, I'd be okay with going to coffee with you. Along with sparring, of course.

[He wouldn't be wrong there. But, Shoto did promise; he's trying his best with things.]

Not really.

[Which isn't to say he wouldn't try it. He's heard it's "crunchy"!]

I wouldn't mind, though.

[Since they're both trying?]

When are you free next?

[Crunchy is one of the main reasons why Shadow just eats the dang beans.]

Depends on how soon you're free, as I should be done within the hour.

[Or less, he's not doing anything too strenuous at the moment.]

I should be free for a while. [But, ah...] Where should I meet you?

It's fine, I can do this one handed.

[As to where to meet? Shadow will send Shoto an address for a little cafe in Camelot, not too far from the Inn, that he knows will sell him coffee beans. He's kind of scoped out which places work for that.]

Unless you'd rather spar instead?

[Curse promises to Maria, Shadow could lie and deny it was him but then that would be breaking his promise to never lie. He could just ignore Amy, but that has the problem of her deciding to hassle him more. Which may not end well either.]

[So he's going with a non-answer instead.]

[ It's definitely not a no, which is more than enough for her. The problem is, she hadn't thought too far ahead when she decided to confront him, so she doesn't know how else to follow up.

Because the thought that he actually had a crush on is crazy...right? ]

That is what others think, I think that the other party involved is a bit too... Stupid to realise some things.

[He's trying to not outright insult Sonic, but... He's still going to insult Sonic.]

I wouldn't say that exactly. Maybe he doesn't entirely realize some things, but he also just...might not be interested.

[ As much as she's told herself that Sonic really does feel the same way about her, and that he just didn't understand his own feelings...sometimes she did have to consider the thought that Sonic just didn't feel the same way about her. ]
